For the 2008 Beijing Olympics, five wonderful and charming characters were created.
Together they are called Fuwa.
Individually their names are:
1. Beibei
2. Jingjing
3. Huanhuan
4. Yingying
5. Nini
This spells out as: Beijing Huan Ying Ni
or
Bejing Welcomes you!!
Each character stands for one of China's unique and beloved animals: Bei is a fish, Jing is a panda, Ying is the Tibetan antelope and Ni is a swallow. Huan stands for the Olympic flame.
Their Asian style and special characteristics make me a fan. They are warm and inviting, to adults as well as children and speak through cultural differences. I see them as they were intended to be seen: as smart, strong models of the Olympic games.
I personally own two: Nini (given to me by a student), and Yingying, (given to me by Ned as a gift!)
